Well, Im sure everyone was shocked when I detailed the Enzo a last week, here is yet another Ferrari super car… the 1991 Ferrari F40. The paint is all original and like the Enzo, all panels are made of carbon fiber. The paint is single stage on this car is EXTREMELY thin, you can see the carbon fiber weave through the paint in certain areas!!!! The car was actually in decent shape other the some random deep marring, wash swirls and light buffer trails left from the previous detailer. The owner will be driving it often and will not be “showing” the car. Refraining from trying to seek perfection and also with regards to preserving paint, I didn’t “deep” polish this baby like I wanted to.

I started on it on Thursday and Finished up Friday. Total Time spent was 13 hours. I’m just getting to post this since I just got back from vacation. :)

Process:

Wash and Clay

Menz IP with Orange CSS cutting pad @1700rpms

Menz 106FF with Green CSS polish/finish pad @1700rpms -> 1200rpms

Zymol HD-Cleanse (Single Stage paint loves this stuff!)

Zymol Ital

Plastic engine cover polished with 4in pads with 106FF and then Plexus.

Wheels hand polished with Flitz

Engine Bay was foamed gunned with 50/50 of degreaser and soap solution

Interior is very basic and I only wiped and vacuumed.

Tires Dressed with Z16

I didn’t really document the halogen before/afters thoroughly since it wasn’t in terrible shape (this was in much better shape then the Enzo surprisingly). Besides, I’m getting really frustrated with this camera!! It makes the red under halogens look pink! I think it’s the flat red under bright lights messing with my camera’s sensors. That or the auto white balance sucks when it is supposed to be really good and the exposure needs constant adjustment.

Any-who..PICS!

Keep in mind preservation of its condition rather than perfection was the goal. There was some marring still present but most of them got knocked out. The inside of the indented triangular shapes on the doors and top of the quarter panels were hand polished but still had plenty of marring left, a 4inch pad wouldnt fit in there safely.

Questions and comments welcomed as always! :)

Awesome job. I haven`t seen one of them in a while. How long did it take? And if you don`t mind, how much do you charge for something like that?:woot2: :bow

Great work!!!! Paint looks great. I know you are using the Nikon now, but how are you getting the sun shots so tight with out darkening the picture or washing it out?

Really superb job getting those swirls out even though the paint was thin. Amazing depth in the after shots. :bow

jtford - I charge a flat rate of 50 an hour (60 an hour after June 10th) that detail took 13 hours.

TH0001- I dont really know, the color of the pics are kinda jacked up though. As for settings, I have it on ISO 50, auto focus, auto aperture and auto shutter. Im about to buy a DLSR and researching my options as we speak.

Scott - Thanks ;)

Very nice looking original paint. New red or old red..........zymol absolutely dominates a red paint surface...............sheer perfection.

I have/had the Canon SD630. Its great little camera. Put it in manual settings, ISO 80, everything else pretty much auto then get a tripod. You pics should turnout out pretty good.

Did you get to drive this one and most importantly did you enjoy your hard earned vacation?

Great work!

74 thing - Drove it about 30 yards at nothing more then 5 mph lol, if you count that as driving. Vacation was just spending time with my gf and some friends out of town but it was relaxing, thanks for asking! :)

Thomas - Time is becoming more and more valuable to me and I must charge accordingly.
