I finally got my baby’s paint detailed by an Autopian! Lightman did the detail for me a week or so ago and I just want to show off his work(and my shiny car). To start, my paint would of been considered to be in bad shape by anyone close to Autopian standards. It’s a single stage black that is over 10 years old. It was loaded up with swirls, scratches, buffing marks, you name it. The paint just never had the care an Autopian gives. So, enter Lightman! He agreed to do my car for me and give me some pointers so I can maintain it myself with the PC. He did an awesome job and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone!

OK, on to the pics!!!!

One thing I need to mention. I was worried about the paint being thin in areas, so we agreed to take a cautious route. I was willing to trade off 100% correction for about 50% to avoid spending thousands on a new paint job. As you’ll see, I think I got way more than 50% correction!

I’m sure Lightman will chime in, so I’ll let him give the details of his approach.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice. That car looks great. Now on to the important question: What do you have under the hood?

Nothing special, just a 502 big block with 500 and some horsepower. :bigups

That is one FAT RAT! Clean too.

It really looks like a sleeper. Then you pop the hood and get punched in the gut.

On occasion. She`s not a picky eater. :chuckle:

You have to be careful these days though. Never know who`s gonna be higher on the food chain.

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words. First off, it was great meeting and doing work for another autopian, Phil turned out to be a great guy, and wow, what a stunning car to work on. I don`t come into contact with many muscle cars, and the condition and quality of this chevelle is outstanding. The engine is like something I`d seen on tv on something like Spike`s Powerblock, as you can see in the pic. Really cool.

As he mentioned, the paint was thin and single stage, so I couldn`t get too aggressive with it. He had a goal of 50% correction, but I think we did better than that as well :)

Process:

* I will first say that the car was impeccably clean to any autopian standard and beyond when I got there. It needed no wash, no claying, it was ready for work. :2thumbs:

After trying various combos I ended up with

-Optimum Compound @ 1200 LC VC Orange pad

-Menzerna Final Polish 2 via pc

- Chemical Guys 5050 Concours Paste wax by hand

Total process for just the paint 9hrs :waxing:
