Volvo paint

This post is more or less me thinking out loud. I own a 1998 Volvo c70 that is black. I wash to the up most analness according to autopia standards. But after 4-5 wash the car under light looks like crap. However 1 pass of a Poli-seal clean the paint up to 90% (good enough for a black DD in my opinion). So does this mean that the paint is soft? I have seen several posts of people detailing 99 and up Volvos and saying the paint is hard. But I`m wondering if the pre-99 paint is soft. FYI in 1999 Ford bought Volvo. I`m just wondering if they changed the paint. Thoughts, ideas? Am I a little crazy?

I own an 06 Volvo. I was under the impression that as of 04 and a half, when the new models came out, that the paint changed too.
