Volvo S60 D5 SE - My New Car

Bryan and I set to work on my new car today, bringing up to the standard I want for my car to be in. This full detail will take days over the bext few weeks to complete as we have time here and there (engine bay, interior, wheels, paint, plastics, rubbers, lights etc etc... everything on this car to be worked on!), this is the first stage of the detail focussing on sorting the paintwork out.



The car is black sapphire, a very nice Volvo colour IMHO that seems to suid the S60. And to be fair the dealer prep wasn`t too bad - swilrs were at a minimum and in the washing stage there was clear protection to the paint visible.



Onto work - first off the car was foamed with snow-foam, rinsed and then washed using Megs Shampoo Plus, dried and clayed ready for polishing. Wheels and arches cleaned with Megs APC and Chemical Guys Blue Rim Cleaner. Arches dressed with Megs All Seasons Dressing.



Rolled into the garage and the paintwork didn`t look too bad - light to medium swilrs, and some deeper scratches:

The areas of deeper scratches received one or two sets with Menzerna Power Gloss (600rpm to spread, two passes at 1200rpm, five or six passes at 1800-2000rpm, spritz and repeat, finish with a coupld of passes at 1200rpm to refine), then the entire car was polished with Menzerna PO85RD3.01 Intensive Polish to remove the general swilrs. The paint proved to be quiote hard on the S60 - up with Seat and VW for hardness, not quite as hard as Mercedes. The results of the polishing process was a crystal sharp finish allowing the flake to ping through at its best:

With the paintwork prepared, it was time for the LSP and what better to kick off with on black than Swissvax Best of Show which will be layered over the coming couple of weeks. Started today with Swissvax Cleaner fluid applied by foam applicator by hand, then the first layer of Swissvax Best of Show wax applied directly by hand. Even with just one layer the paint was coming up beautifully wet and deep looking with a great gloss and reflections. A couple of during pics:

Glass was cleaned with Swissvax Crystal, and tyres with Meguiars Endurance gel then the car was rolled out for pics after stage one... Think I got a bit carried away with the pics, but I`m really enjoying having a black car now! :D Today`s completed pics, with some tree shots for Brazo:

Nice works, it looks great the metalic flakes have come up a treat!! I had that car in beige with the similiar Oxford plates, atleast you dident get the wheels i had which were the multispokes and were a real PIA!!

Great work Dave! I just did a volvo last week and I know how hard the clears are on these cars. When done right they are just perfect to look at with the thick amounts of clear they have.

D = Diesel, yes. :)



This one has the 185bhp, 400Nm EuroIV version of the 2.4 litre 5cyl diesel engine - I`m getting used to the differing performance chracteristics from my old petrol engine, and once used to it, the car can absolutely fly. :clap:

Low end torque(Nm) is nice. It really changes the driving characteristics of a vehicle.
