This is a new Autopia member`s car, it`s ~6 months old and had, unfortunately, been washed improperly by the dealer and a local detail place. Aside from the pretty heavy swirling, there was some very deep, long, horizontal marring caused by a California Water Blade on the hood, rear deck, roof, and doors... (so, everywhere). I hate to say it (Sorry, Stu!), but it was one of the rougher 6 month old cars I`ve ever seen. The hood was a real mess.

Process was:

Some wetsanding on the hood and rear deck, all with 3k

Hi Temp EC/OP via orange @ 1700-1800

Hi Temp HC/orange @1500

106ff/white @ 1200

Z5pro

OCW

The sun revealed mostly swirls...

Halogens showed the deeper marring....

How can the owner let that happen to such a new car? You rock Picus.

Kevin,

It`s sad how much marring there was on such a new IS. :(

You saved it nicely though. :)

Hi folks,

I`ve been lurking for a while, kind of hiding in shame :), but now that Kevin has worked his magic I figured it was time to come on in.

Kevin did a wonderful job on my car. As you can see it was a disaster pre Kevin. I even called the painted diseased, which Kevin thought was humerous. I think he agrees that it really was.

Someone asked how I let it get that way so let me try and explain. I picked up the car late October 06. Dealer even threw in the paint protection package. With winter approaching I figured the PP wasn`t an all bad thing to get, especially as a throw in. I knew after winter that I was going to let Kevin have at my car. The car is black so of course it was dirty quite often. I didn`t know about ONR and such and knew taking it through a car wash with brushes was a bad thing so I found a local detailing chain that did washes. What I didn`t know was how much damage they could really do. I would let them wash the car weekly and had the dealer wash it the 4 or so times I visited them. At least the car was relatively clean. Now I have learned my lesson, no dealer or deatiling chain will touch it again.

I picked up ONR and OCW, a couple of buckets, grit guard, some towels and mitts from Pakshak, etc. and will be washing my car myself. On top of keeping the car clean and disease free, i will be getting some exercise I can surely use :)

Thanks again Kevin

Yep, it was tinted.

:xyxthumbs , thanks again for having me!

I was joking with Stu that now that he has found Autopia, he`ll soon spend twice as much on detailing supplies as he does on the car. :D
