I was repairing a chip on my trunklid (black car, 2005)... thin primer layer, built up touchup paint until it was above the surrounding area, let it dry a day. I went back with 1500 grit sandpaper and quick detail spray to wet the area and sanded down the bump, then went back with 2000 and more spray to smooth it. When I wiped away, there are two solid grey blobs next to the touched-up area. I used some cutting polish with my PC and it removed all the marring, but the grey blobs are still there. They are smooth and totally level with the surrounding area and just as shiny it seems.

Did I burn my paint? I was never very agressive. :(

Can I fix this?

This whole area is pretty small, not a lot bigger than a quarter.

You probably did not completely remove the sanding marks. It may take some time to completely remove the sanding marks with a PC. Usually a rotary is required to remove sanding scratches.

I think you can with a 4" pad.

Sure you can, 4"-6" cutting pad, heavy compound and clear coat that was sanded to much or thin to begin with and bamm you got burned clear.

That looks like primer. You probably removed way too much paint with the sanding steps.
