Hi all!

I am new to this forum. Just have a question. Today, I first time detailed my car with DA polisher. The vibration was unbearable when I dialed up to speed 5. I noticed that the counterweight that came with the polisher says use 5" pad only. So, using 6.5" pad is the cause of the vibration? If I want to change the counterweight from 5" to 6", do I also need to change to the 6" backing plate? :thx

.......If I want to change the counterweight from 5" to 6", do I also need to change to the 6" backing plate? :thxNo, just change the counterweight and see if it helps. I use a 5" counterweight, a 5" BP, and usually use 6.5" pads and vibration has never been a problem. In fact I have a 6" counterweight but I`ve never bothered to put it in.

Some members note a difference when changing the weights and some don`t, but it won`t hurt for you to give it a try. I think they are held in with torx screws if you decide to swap it out.

Eliot Ness, thanks for the info. I will buy the 6" counterweight and will see how it goes. Do you know how to use the rotary? After my first DA polishing, I think patience is the key. It does take a lot of time to bring out the good result.

........Do you know how to use the rotary? ........I pretty much have the basics down pretty well, but I don`t consider myself an expert with a rotary since I don`t use it very often.

I haven`t used my PC yet (still waiting on my products to be delivered), so I don`t know how it will behave in my hands. Do I have to worry about counterweight while using 6 inch Edge pads? Given it`s a PC set from Lowes.

Given it`s a PC set from Lowes. It will be fine, the worse that will happen is the vibration might be uncomfortable. I think the PC from Lowes is a 7336 which comes with a 6" counterweight if I remember correctly. When you take off the backing plate you`ll see the silver counterweight (http://www.coastaltool.com/a/port/skinny.htm) and it will be marked either 5" or 6".

If the PC vibrates more than you care for you can try switching to the other counterweight and see if it helps. Patrick from Exceldetail sells the weights for $3 if you want to buy one (he has nice MF`s too):
