Hello all!!!

I love my job.

Yesterday I got to work on one of my dream cars...this beautiful 997. Not only was it an S model but it was my favorite color combo of silver on black. I really wanted to leave the owner the keys to my truck and just drive away in that gorgeous piece of rolling Stuttgart art. :chuckle: Someday I will own one.

This particular car is brand spanking new with just 1,400 miles on the odo. It is a weekend/toy car and had not been touched (other than just being rinsed off by the owner) since delivery. The paint was near perfect with just the slightest bit of marring. Below is a description of process and products used.

Enjoy,

Mike

Wash with Meg`s Gold Class shampoo

Polish with Optimum Polish using a LC white pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Meg`s #20 by hand with a foam pad.

Tires have 2 coats of Z-16 and all clear bra pieces have ClearKote`s VM.

is that really the key ignition on the left side of the steering wheel?

yes!

It originates from Porsche`s racing history. I think they put it on the left so you could start the car quickly. I think it has been like that since the beginning.

ikon: Ya - it`s a PITA...`cause your other cars are on the proper side, and your key is in your right hand. They have an attitude about some racing 100yrs ago... The Boxster is the same too.

What`s more: when you turn the key, the starter bendix waits a 3/4 of a second to engage. It`s scary if you only drive them on sunny days; they have a voracious appetite for amps while parked ...and if your voltage drops beyond a certain point: 1) the key is no longer removable (must be a German`s idea of theft protection?) ..2) the battery is in the front boot/trunk ...and, of course, that`s locked now. There`s a not so fun exercise to jump the fuse panel under the dash by the driver`s door.

However, all`s forgiven when you light one up. Even the idle is cool: they do something to the cats when cold and the thing burbbles at idle like a Donzi dipping it`s stacks underwater. Cool sound.

Mike: Nice job made easy by no miles, eh? Pickle Forks are the wrong wheels for the car. Cheers.

Nice work there Mike, you should be proud.

The LC white pad is my go to pad for Porsche paint in terms of "all around", good choice on that.
