View Full Version : Which is better for rubber seals?

Last night, I sprayed silicone lubricant on all of my weatherstripping, door/trunk/hood seals, etc.

I know a lot of people use rubber/vinyl protectants and dressings, such as 303.

I don`t care about sheen or appearance; which product will keep my seals pliable and make them last for decades?

silicone lube is great and will keep your seals in great shape

I have use it one a few cars with t-tops that were outside 24/7

and the seal where still great after 15-20 years

and and nerer leaked!

this is also what GM recomends for them

FYI: if they are really bad use some dielectric(sp?) grease

I second that. 1Z Einszett products are my only choice for interior detailing and special parts care.

In my experience just using *something* will often be enough. The seals on my Jag (and the RX-7) are still fine after twenty-some years and I`ve used a number of different things on them.

Guess my vote would go to the gummi stick things, but I like the one from Wurth better than the one from 1Z. Both are good, but the Wurth one dries cleaner and leaves less transfer-residue (I tested them side-by-side on a number of vehicles). I never did figure out who makes the one that BMW dealers sell, but it`s popular too.

I use DG Tire and Mat Dressing......works great and isn`t all shiny and funky. Dries to a nice matte finish.

I used Megs Natural shine the first time I did mine and Megs ASD the second time. The Jeep is only 3 years old, but they still look like new.

I use Meg`s Hyper Dressing at 3:1. Keeps them looking and feeling great for months, I usually apply every 6 months or so.

My seals and weatherstriping get a coating of 303 about 3-4 times a year. I do the same to under hood seals and trunk seals as well as interior seals and weatherstriping.

it tell me they know how to sell you a $10 "better" rubber teatment

when a $1.50 product is the best!:nana:
