Im looking for a cheap guage that works. Im thinking about this one.

It seems as if the accuracy of that gauge (.4 mils +5%) is too broad of a range considering removing any more than .3mils of clearcoat is sufficient to risk premature clearcoat failure.

Ideally, you`ll want greater accuracy. If you like the Quanix brand, then check out their 4500 gauge. It`s accuracy is better. Fendor Splendor offers a lower priced gaue with 1 - 3% accuracy. It works on both fe & nfe and switches automatically. It runs $489 delivered. I had seriously considered putting a group buy together for this product, but it ended up being priced significantly more than what I was told it would be. Here`s the link to it...

The PosiTest DFT is also nice...

Kett offers some nice gauges, but they`re pricy. I use a Kett for some of my work.

Checkline also has some nice products and I also have one of their coating thickness gauges as well.

There`s a lot of coating thickness gauges out there if you look around. Make sure you get one that does both fe & nfe. It`s also nice to have one that auto-switches between fe & nfe. Accuracy in very important, so get something as accurate as you can for what you can afford. Also, make sure it reads in both mills and microns because it comes in handy at times.

The Fendor Splendor gauge on eBay is the model 488 and I don`t believe it has the accuracy of the 502, which they`re not yet selling on eBay.
