I`ve ordered a PC and it`s on the way. I`ve hand-polished for years and have grown tired of the limitations thereof. I`ve got a newbie kind of question for ya`ll.

I have done extensive antique furniture refinishing and I realize the importance of beginning the process with a well-prepared, clean surface, devoid of any contaminants, residues, etc.

Before I begin using the PC, how do I do an ultimate preparation? Does the paint surface need to be stripped of all waxes and what is the best way of doing so? I`ve seen numerous references to using Dawn to do so, but I wonder. If it helps, I`ll be using Meguiars products because that`s what I have access to. I`ll branch out to other stuff later.

Any advice? Thanks.

:welcome Welcome to Autopia.

To strip all the waxes and contaminants all you have to do is clay the car. You can find all the information on the detailing guide forum.

Meguiar`s clay is good to start, but there is better.
