Just bought a PC 7336, Need the essentials!!!

Hey guys I need a little advice on what to get for my new PC. I will only be detailing my personal vehicles at the moment. They are a `99 Pontiac Grand Prix, black, and an `02 GMC Sierra, two-tone, white and pewter. The Sierra looks as though it only needs a light polish, but the Grand Prix is showing alot of swirl marks and light scratches, especially on the hood. I do have some supplies, but nothing specifically for the PC. I figure I need at least...........



1. Backing plate and assortment of pads.



2. Some sort of polish.



3. ???????



Cost and ease of use are a priority. I am new to this and I dont have a ton of money laying around. So I need something that works and is not a waste. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the help!!!!!

Check out Lake Country Foam Pads (http://www.lakecountrymfg.com/foampads.html) or the Edge 2K double sided pad system (http://www.edgepads.com/) (I personally like the Edge system).



There are any number of good polishes out there. I recently tried the XMT series by Pinnacle and liked it a lot. Have a good supply of microfiber towels and/or bonnets for product removal and final polishing. Use the bonnets over a wool pad for good results. (but don`t use the wool pad for anything else, it`s too aggressive) Use a pad conditioner before each new section and clean the pads every couple of sections.



Will you be working in shade? If not, the XMT series will work in direct sunlight. Just make sure that whatever polish you use you work it long enough for the abrasives to fully break down. If you work it too long and it drys and is hard to wipe off, a little spritz of quidk detailer should do the trick.

So what you are saying is that I should ask questions that have`nt been answered a million times? Maybe you should figure out what you are saying before being an ***.



I have search and read alot. There are alot of unanswered questions I have that may be just trivial, but I dont want to buy something that is wrong for my application. That is why I listed the vehicles I have and their color, and, that ease of use and price are a factor for me.

Thank you Phalcon. The Lake Country pads look pretty good. Are they similar to the ones from Sonus? The SFX pads. They seem to have matched up their polishes with their pads. Seems simple. Is the Sonus backing plate the same as the one from Lake Country?



The videos were a great help. It helps to see what they mean by breaking down the polish. Thanks for the tips.

I`m afraid I don`t have any direct experience with the Lake Country or Sonus pads, although I`m sure someone who does will chime in. Pad and polish selection will be determined more by the defects you`re trying to correct than anything else. You may need to use a mild polish with a more aggressive pad or vice-versa. Always start with the least aggresive combo and do a test panel. Whatever it takes to make the test panel look good is what you`ll do to the rest of the car. It may take two or more passes, depending.

2 white polishing and 2 orange light cut



Edge pads

2 blue polishing and 2 orange light cut



Or get the Sonus pads (by LC) matched with Sonus polishes

I purchased my Edge pads from Danase.



Bob has great cs too, and with the forum discount, the price was the cheapest amongst the other places I found to carry the Edge double sided system.
