Occasional detailer, not even a weekend warrior wondering if there`s a new tool in town or if the 7424 is still the rookies tool of choice.

:help:

I currently have a $19.99 Craftsman random orbital that seems to work well but can`t get rid of the temptation to get a Porter Cable.

The PC is still the chosen tool for amatures and pros

Thanks for the quick reply!

I`ll take a peak here and see if I can find a good starter kit... and while I wait for my order to arrive to a LOT of reading lol.

for the price the PC is the best choice-there are better machines but they cost more

Hey Lucky,

I am a member on chevytalk and also your site, athough I don`t visit either of them that much anymore. This place seems to take up all my time. Good to see you here and congratulations, you just found the best resource on the web for detailing.

Hey good to see you man... I`m so lost when it comes to this, I think that`s why I haven`t pulled the trigger yet... to many variables lol.

Ok, done...

Is there a thread here to read on a good starter kit?

not to mention... if you ask for an "autopian" discount (not sure if it applies with kits, but ask anyway), you can save 10%....

also, if you haven`t seen this guide... How-To Use The Porter Cable 7424 6" Orbital Polisher (http://guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=47)

I`ve got the last kit that bigal posted from autogeek and love it. I would just make sure whatever you get, the pads aren`t too big. I believe most people will agree 6"or 6.5" pads is as large as you would want to go with a pc (because of its lack of power compared to a rotary). good luck.

I`d suggest the Edge kit for ease of use and double sided pads.

Welcome to Autopia, Lucky13MN!

While the PC is still the most popular unit, there *is* an alternative that some of us like better, but it`s the *old* tool in town ;) having been around a lot longer than the PC: The Cyclo.

Well worth doing a quick search on, as we`ve discussed it in depth a million times, including some direct comparisons with the PC.

Thanks for the welcome! That`s one cool looking tool, I think I could do some damage with it haha.

Ok, the Porter Cable 7424 is purchased and on the way...

Now I`m thinking Lake Country pads, mostly `orange` and some product lol.

Good grief, this is gonna be the death of me.

I think David messed up the Guide

"Autopia Member Deemo: Ford F150"

have you noticed how the top pick has the key pad entry, but the bottom pic longer has it?
