Awhile back, I was walking out of a store to the back of the parking lot. I see a shopping basket touching the back panel of my truck, by the tail light. I move the basket and see a few scratches about 4" long. After I calmed down, went home, wipped the area down real well, and applied some touch up paint. It did an ok job covering the scratches, but you could still see it. I read somewhere that SSR 2.5 will buff out 2000 grit wet sanding marks. Didn`t ever want to try this cause I never did anything like this before. Well today I wake up, and said what the hell, it`s been about a month since it happened and the touch up looks like crap. So I soaked the sand paper in some water with a little dish soap, squirted the area with the water mixture and began sanding the area down till it was smooth. After I wipped it down, it was very dull, and the scratches were so fine you couldn`t even see them. Looked like wax that hazed over. So I broke out the P.C. with a cutting pad and some SSR2.5 Buffed the area well, wipped it down, the sanding marks were gone. So I changed to a polish pad, and SSR1, buffed, finished with Adams Revive Polish, and butter wax. Now when you look at the area, you can`t even tell anything happened. I was amazed. So I went to the other two areas that were chipped from rocks, very small, but they are deep. I sanded the area to smooth it out a bit, then filled it with touch up paint. Tomorrow I will repeat the same steps above and see how they come out. I have a couple pictures of what I did today, and wil update tomorrow. Sorry for the long post, just happy with the results.

I guess I have to post this on my other web board, since I can`t post pics here. Sorry fellas, heres a link to some pics.

The camera hides your face, but for some reasons you remind me of Tony from the show 24. :)

wow, that looks awesome, i`m a little scared to wetsand my paint, but might give it a try on my fb. How long did you soak the sandpaper in the water, and did you use a mixture of soap and water for added lubercation?

I just used a piece of 2000 grit that was about 1"X3" strip. I poured some dishwashing liquid in a squirt bottle, and then filled with water. Used a spray paint can plastic top, poured some of the water mixture in that and let the sand paper sit for a few minutes. I squirted the area down on the finish, and started working across the scratch, not with it. Don`t go to far over the area your fixing. The scratch it self was about 1/2" X 4", so the most I went over was like a 1/4" all around, maybe even less. I wanted to blend it into the surrounding finish also. Just take you time and keep the area lubricated with the water mixture. You will see the touch up paint start to disappear. Make sure you check the area often so you don`t over do it. I sanded till smooth. Then started to buff the haze out. The scratches left from the paper are so fine, they came right out in one pass with SSR2.5 and cut pad. The sanding took me about 5 minutes, then buffing with SSR2.5, SSR1, polish, wax another 10 minutes. I asked a few body shops if they could repair it, but they would have to spray an entire 6-foot bed for a 4-inch scratch. They said it doesn`t matter how small, the spray the entire piece these days. I thought they just wanted the money, but all three shops said the exact same thing.
