A customer booking yesterday saw a request to travel out to de-swirl a BMW X5.

Here is the car on my 8.30am arrival:

First job was a rinse and wash with DP foam, including inner alloys, arches and the sills. The X5 was then clayed with a mixed of Pinnacle Poly Clay on the roof, bonnet, and upper side panels, with Wolfgang Grey Clay on the lower section. A re-wash and rinse, dried with the cobra guzzler and taped with 3m. Next the paint depth readings.

and inspection of the swirls and taping up of the test section:

With the test section taped and ready I fitted a Wolfgang Polishing Pad to the Metabo, a slight spritz and some heat into the pad before using 3m Polishing Pad Glaze. Initially tested in at 1100rpm and then worked up to 1500 rpm before final light passes at 600rpm. Here is the test section before and after:

Liking the results, and happy with the level of correction I used this combo for the whole car. Here are some halogen before and afters:

Next stage was a finishing pad on the metabo and Meguiars Speed Glaze, worked at 600rpm. This was then topped with the PC, a finishing Pad and XMT finishing glaze.

Whlst the glaze cured, I applied Poli-Seal to the alloys and de-taped the car. The runner baords had the use of some Megs NXT Metal Polish.

Wiped the XMT away and applied COllinite 845IW by foam pad. Whilst this cured, alloys wiped clear, Megs Endurance Gel on the tyres and Stoners invisible Glass on all exterior Glass.

The Collinite was wiped clear, and the car given a spritz of Pinnacle Crystal Mist. Wheel arches sprayed lightly with diluted Poorboys Bold n Bright, same for all the plastic work before I went round checking all door shuts for dust etc.

And, 12 hours later, and in the very very dark Feb night, here are the afters:

A truely long day, and a very rewarding result for me.

Thanks for reading

Great job, I am a big fan of the 3M Polishing Pad Glaze, great product for black, although I am not one to test as many products as most on this forum

You didn`t dress the fenderwells which IMO makes the overall appearance from below eye level look great. However, the de-swirling was absolutely awesome. The X5 turned out absolutely great!

its just because of the 1000watt halogens, the wheels are fine for a car which gets used on farm lanes trust me.

here is a daylight pic from this morning taken by the owner:

Great job and a very impressive day of hard labor for you. Not to be rude or such, but what does this procdure cost in the UK? With higher living costs there then here in the States, it would be interesting to know what you charge. Thanks in advance.

Its also nice seeing actual after light reflection shots.. to often here the after shots are outdoor shots of the whole car, hiding what was left ;)

looks great!

exactly why I did the before and afters with the 3m glaze.

By doing them with halogens, sun light and the brinkmann/camera flash I covered all bases that can be used to show the true unhidden level of my work. thanks for the post :bigups
