Aloha all...

I wanted to know how do you guys/gals get the fine scratches around the door handles out?

I had a 4Runner which I detailed yesterday morning and there were fine scratches all around the door handles which I couldn`t use my rotary on. But at the end with some elbow grease the scratches were removed...ah what a pain and it`s so time consuming. So I would like to get an idea of your process/steps to rid those fine scratches around the door handles. There has to be an easier way than the way I`m doing it. :waxing: :buffing:

Thank you & Aloha,

Ranney :)

Hey Ranney!

On my much neglected cars I used a MF pad, some polish and alot of elbow grease. Scratches were diminished enough that they were only noticeable if you were looking for them.

I plan to hit the area one more time just to knock them down one more time then glaze with the newly acquired RMG (thanks BTW) and top off.

You can buy a mini buffing kit from SM Arnold. I bought mine off of EBay. It has 2 wool pads

and 2foam pads. Also comes with a velco backing plate for your drill. Joe:buffing: :2thumbs:

Initially, for a better bite, you can use terry too.

I wonder if the small Powerball would get in there?

Power ball would be a very bad thing to use on paint

I use 1Z PP and a sur-buff pad (handheld)

If you use the Powerball with a 18V drill, it is a great way to clean & polish hard to reach areas. And most importantly - safe.

When you use with inadequate methods (ordinary, high speed drill, etc) them PB Mini can concentrate very high energy levels (heat) to a very small area. Combine this with heat-sensitive plastics (door handles, brake cooling ducts in the bumpers, etc) and the task is risky.

The mothers power ball wasnt designed for paint. Its very very very aggresive, it was designed to clean and polish metals, glass and hard plastics, obviously it will be very aggresive.

PakShak- Some areas just require by-hand work IMO, sometimes nothing would fit other than the small buffs for a Dremel-type tool and I shy away from such approaches. The 1Z Ultra/Extra, used with terry, is a great first step, about as aggressive as you can get by hand without resorting to wetsanding.
