Hey everyone - normally I post a whole whack of cars but I was really happy with the way this one turned out. As I am sure a lot of you guys who do this daily know, you generally get to a point where you have expectations, the result meets them, and you move on. On this car the results exceeded my expectations, which is kind of rare being as, like a lot of you, I am somewhat obsessive... :getdown

So the car; 2002 black Z06 from Texas, owner bought it last year and it didn`t look like it`d ever had work done to it (paint or detailing), the paint was very hard which I expected, it also liked to micro mar, which I didn`t. Condition of the paint was; moderate swirling, some deep marring on the horizontal surfaces, nothing too spectacular but it was pretty rough considering the hardness of the paint. Car itself is almost stock, just aftermarket exhaust, intakes, and wheels. Sounds killer. :)

Process:

A little wetsanding on the rear desklid, the funny plastic piece..

EC/OP via yellow @1700 (I got a ton of haze on this step, which is sort of weird).

Menzerna IP via orange @ 1500

106FF via grey pad @1300

Poorboys EX-P/OCW (I like this combo, I`ve been using it a lot lately).

P21S polishing soap on the wheels and exhaust

Total time was about 9 hours.

End result was about 98% marring free, maybe even a bit more. I have to admit when I saw it I was a little concerned about the hood/decklid, but they came out very nice.

Sorry for no outside shots... there was 3 inches on snow on the ground! Actually, funny story (now), when I got to the owners house he wasn`t there, so I opened the garage (electronic password), setup my 3 2x500w lights, a small space heater (it was -6C), start the rotary and boom; fuse blows. I am locked in the garage and its cold and dark! Called owner, and hour later he frees me. I then used the heavy duty socket inside the house. :)

Anyway, onward:

The corvette clear is definitely a PITA to work on, and with that, Amazing job! I also encountered the haze when I worked a z06.

Picus,

The car looks awesome. What kind of durability are you seeing out of EX-P wiped with OCW? I really dont get much of anything out of EX-P, but it does look nice (I`ve got the old formula).

I saw this when you posted on G35driver and I was...

Spectacular job man :bigups

Haha it is kind of amusing you were locked in the garage. I can only imagine what thoughts crossed your mind for the hour you had to think about it. :D

yellow pad... all LC? the lc grey pad is similar to the beige Meguairs pads aren`t they?

Hey thanks guys.

Yes, all LC pads. The grey pad is the finishing pad, yes.

Way2SSlow - I`m using new EX-P, lasts about 3 months. I am using this combo on cars that aren`t too concerned with super-long-term durability. I`d have used Z5Pro had the owner been more concerned with durability.

ZaneO - I *know*, I love them! I was totally drooling over them. :) He`s a member over at corvetteforum, too.

twitch - ya, I actually took the time to make some calls I needed to make, heh. It did get a little chilly though.

Awesome work. This is the first time I have seen someone with the same wheels I have. I have had mine almost 3 years now.

Beautiful work! The reflections are absolutely superb! :)

Sucks about the fuse blowing and getting stuck in the garage like that. I`ve been working in a few garages too, hope that doesn`t happen to me. :nervous2:

Hehe, man you have no idea how badly I wanted to back it out, but I never would have got it back in. PSII`s + snow + torque = :/

Normally I`m not huge on reflection shots, I like the more gratuitous "Halogen in your face" type deals but I couldn`t resist.

Ya, the fuse thing caught me off guard, first time it`s happened. I think it was the space heater (which you probably won`t need). :)
