can someone post some pics of the following...to help clear up the misunderstanding between the ones!

clearcoat checking

clearcoat failure

oxidation

also, i had a detail a while back...while polishing, the paint revealed little "cracks" that looked like it was shot up with a BBgun...looked like three little lines from a center meeting spot...but all over the paint...this paint was on a clearcoated/neglected paint.

I have also seen what you are describing with the little lines. Where I noticed it it was on a poor repaint. I am by no means an expert so Im not sure exactly why it happens.

Are you describing something like on the lower left corner of the below photo? I am still trying to find out what that is, it`s all over the hood of our Explorer and it drives me bonkers.

BTW, only SS paint oxidizes.

This link isn`t specific to car paint, but it does a great job of explaining and illustrating lots of different paint defects.

Looks like you may have a couple of bird markings

in the pic of the explorer, I would say bird droppings...i have it on one spot on my tundra and I know its from that because I saw it there and wiped it off...

what I was describing was clearcoat checking....I didnt know what checking was....but it was all over this ford I did, so I just used a wax in that area!
