I did a search on how to clean oil and grease picked up by shoes in parking lots and ordinary dirt. It looks like I need to do the following

1) start with a solvent

2) then an alkaline based cleaner (brushing lighty after applying each)

3) let this sit for 20 mins or so

4) lightyly apply water and use a shopvac to dry it out

5) repeat applying water and vacuuming several times

6) place a fan on the spot to try to dry it within 4-6 hours

I hope this is correct :)

Now to my questions. What actual products do you all use for this? Do you just you something like paint thinner or acetone as a solvent, or something specific for the auto industry? What kind of akaline cleaner do you use?

I`d really like something that I could buy at Autozone, O`Reilly`s, Walmart, ect...

Thanks!!!!!

For oil and grease on floor mats, I have had pretty good luck with citrus based hand cleaner (the kind you get at autozone for cleaning your hands after an oil change).

Put a big glob on the stain, and rub it in with a brush. Follow with hot water and the shop vac to extract all of the mess.

An excellent solvent is carried by True Value Hardware stores called Carbo-sol, under the "Sunnyside" label. Perfect for your applicatin.
