I have a strange problem on my paint and I thought this would be the right place to ask.

Car is a 2001.5 VW Passat. Color is blue anthracite. It is outside 24/7. Unfortunately it has been a bit neglected for the last two years...

I have a clay bar and several 1Z products. Any suggestions on what the problem in these pictures is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance for your help!

It is all over the roof and spreading to the top of the trunk:

im pretty sure i know what that is

it can happen when a paint shop uses plastic sheeting on a car thats not fully dry , then bakes the car and the damp gets into the paint, couldve happened with a car cover too

most times it polish out ...although ive seen some that wont

That`s what I was thinking too. Something has been placed on the paint at some point causing that damage. I would give it a go with a rotary and some polish, because to me it looks as if those strange areas are riding on the clearcoat and can be removed. Good luck.

The areas do look raised but they aren`t.

I`ve never used a car cover, and the car has only been in the body shop once for a left front quarter panel repair - and that was in late 2001/early 2002.

The weird thing is that it seems to be spreading. At first I only noticed it between the sunroof and the windshield, then it started spreading to the back and has started to appear on the trunk lid.

Any other thoughts?

never seen something like that before but it definitely looks like some sort of foreign object was placed on you car, why else would there be a pattern like that. do you live near corn fields where crop circles have magically popped up by chance? :hide:
