Paid John, a fellow member of a detailing form, a visit today to go over some techniques for using the PC to get the best results on his Astra VXR. Rather than doing a full detail on the car, the point of the day was to show John my techniques for using the PC and to help him get started in the road to producing his own swirl free finish on his red VXR.

We started by washing the car and demonstrating claying.

We chose the drivers door as a test spot to show the PC techniques, and put a piece of masking tape on the door to show a half and half to highlight the swilrs being removed...

A pic of the swilrs before hand:

As in my experience Vauxhall paint is generally pretty soft, we decided to try out Meguiars #80 on a Meguiars polishing pad... This was spread at speed 3 and then several passes on speed 5 until the residue started to go clear - the product was thoroughly worked... After one hit, the swilrs were removed but a very faint micromarring was left behind, something thats is not uncommon when using the PC on solid colours (the finish of the rotary is much sharper). However, this was quickly removed using Menzerna One Step Acyllic Jacket as a one stage finishing polish and seal, with the results:

and a half and half:

I then demonstrated the ease of application of Chemical Guys Instawax for a quick wax pre-show... I have previously seen the results this product yileds on solid reds (excellent), so was keen to show John how to performed. A reflection shot after this was applied (wheels not cleaned):

Once I had done one half of the door, John then did the other half and picked up using the PC very quickly to get an excellent swirl free finish...

Next step was the roof, whcih was bearing some deep scratches from a jetwash brush - #80 struggled with these, so #83 was used with a SFX-1 pad and followed with the #80 to refine the finish and then the one step acryllic jacket... I did a one part of the roof to show John the #83, and how it broke down and then John did the rest.

All in all, I had a great day showing John my techniques for using the PC, and it was great to see an excellent finish on the areas which we had detailed... Now its over to John to finish the car. :thumb: :thumb:

Yep, easy peasy. Sprayed onto a microfibre, wiped across the paint, left a minute to haze, buffed off. :)
