Is there a difference in using liquid dish soap vs. using liquid dishwashing detergent (for dishwashers)? Am I correct in assuming that the dishwasher detergent is more harsh? If it is more harsh does that make it not safe for use on cars? Either would of course be used befor a complete detail...not for regular washing.

Dishwasher Detergent generally contains bleach and abrasives...STAY AWAY!

I use Dawn before complete details. It helps break up and loosen contaminants prior to and while claying. It also rinses clean and is not that harsh on the surface. Doing this 2-4 times max a year will hurt nothing.
