engine detailing

i know what a lot of you are thinking and yes i have seen the guide on autopias site on how to do it. However i have to be honest... i know nothing about engine :o nothing at all lol. I dont know how they work, i dont know what pretty much anything is and i dont know how to clean them. Now i know when i clean them, i have to cover some stuff up, but what do i have to cover up and how do i find it.(05 jeep grand cherokee) . I used a wet cloth a few weeks ago and wiped off what i could, and i spray some armor all on another MF and wipd i on some of the plastic and it looked ok. But how can i make it look great. Thanks for the help, sorry i am an idiot with engines :nixweiss i think the only thing i can do other than clean cars is change tires lol. Thanks again
