When I got home from work the other day I smelled something coming from under my motorcycle. Somehow, a plastic bag or something got stuck to my hot exhaust and melted to it. It is now hard and feels like plastic, although I really don`t know what material it is.

It is on the polished portion of the exhaust so I don`t want to be too aggressive and ruin my exhaust finish.

I tried a few solvents and it didn`t soften at all.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

#0000 steel wool followed by good chrome/metal polish. It must be #0000 or you`ll have problems with scratches. I`ve done this before with perfect results.

How about thoroughly saturating it with Goo Gone? Or a heat gun and some careful scraping with a sharp razor?

Why not start your bike, run it for a while till it gets the exhaust hot and scrape it off. That would probably be the easiest and least harming way.

I would suggest a heat gun maybe, less chance of burning of yourself. But running the bike for a bit might work too. You`ll still have to polish it afterwards to get the rest of the reside off.
