Here is a detail I did last night/today. I received a call at 2 pm yesterday from someone who wanted their car done by the next afternoon so I said sure….what a mistake : ) The guy who owns this vehicle takes great care of it on the outside, waxes it often, runs it through the car wash every time he sees dirt or a bird bomb. And here lies the problem…this truck was covered in swirls and tiny little scratches,

Well the truck arrived and it was pretty caked with dirt and grass (used for a landscaping business) The lower rocker panels all along the truck were covered in tar, and lots of it…My clay didn’t even make a dent. So I had to use WD-40 to remove it, and it worked great! Everything came off and it was perfectly clean. Rims/tires/wells cleaned with Amazing Roll Off

The wheel wells in the rear also received Wd-40 to get the crud off them and shined up with Instant Shine from Spray away

IP wouldn’t touch any of the swirls so I had to use the PG/RMG mix on a cutting pad, I then followed it with a line of Optimum Polish and line of FPII on a polishing pad, after working the product in I then switched to a finishing pad spritzed once with Duragloss FCS and continued to work the product till I got a marr free finish. All swirls and marring were removed however in a couple places there are still tiny deep little swirls or scratches…Not sure what they are exactly. I then did a IPA wipedown to ensure everything was squeaky clean, and applied 2 coats of Z5Pro ZFX’d. I then went over the vehicle with Z6, and Z8 before handing it over to the owner. I dressed all trim and tires with Zaino Z16 and the wells received CD-2 Engine Detailer while the rear wells received Instant Shine.

Short Version:

Question To Autopians: Is WD-40 safe to use on vehicles with tar or should I purchase the Asphalt Remover from excel detail.com? The WD-40 really did a nice job at only .99 a can…however I want to make sure I will be okay using it.

Sorry for only one before, when I received the vehicle it was already 10:00 pm and I needed to get started without trying to figure out how to take good swirl shots at night. Hopefully you can still appreciate my hard work and hopefully my pictures show that : ) Just after I finished this detail I told myself..man I hope I start getting little cars rather than all these big *work* trucks. Well…as I was typing this thread up a I received a phone call, a local small business owner wants his 2005 Pickup done…Black - Full interior and exterior : ( These trucks are really giving me a challenge for just starting out part-time :P

Thanks for looking, comments and questions welcome!

Outstanding work! My brother has a landscaping business so I see how his truck gets so I know you really had your work cut out for you.

Not only does the paint look terrific, but even the fenderwells and step tubes (other than the rusted areas of course) look great! :bow

Thank you very much Scott - I did this detail for only $90, as the owner is like the head honcho of every group in my city. After doing the exterior he wanted the interior done as well :) The deal was, I would give him a discounted price if he agreed to hand out my cards to people he knows. He has already handed out a number of cards to interested people..and he has a golf outing with a local group soon where he will be giving away a gift of some sort dealing with my services. I have not yet decided what to do. I guess what I could do is give him cards for every person who is in this golf outing, and give the group a discount of 15% off a ultimate detail? Im still debating...never the less I know this guy is going to bring me a lot of work :)
