Think i can do it?

i`ve read using a tooth pick is the best method b/c of the capillary action or something, but with a chip this big, can i just place the toothpick in the middle and will the paint still fill it, or do i have to use an artist brush?

Fix this:

How big is it (in mm)? Looks to me like brush would be better than toothpick.

Get clear cote here. http://www.paintscratch.com/

I would use several light coats and build it up before applying the clear though.

When you start doing it IMO you`ll find that the toothpick and brush aren`t as (fuctionally) different as you might think. I use the brushes because I have them, but I had good results from the toothpick approach too.

I don`t think that`ll require primer, just color and clear.

I too use stuff from paintscratch.com.

Was your car painted with the HOK KBC11? You oughta be able to get clear from them (assuming it`s a basecoat/clearcoat paint, I`m not familiar with their stuff).

i hope that my car was painted with the HOK KBC11, i don`t really know because i bought the car from someone painted already, and its been passed around quite a bit so i lost contact with the person that actually painted it this color. and i went to bodyshops trying to get them to mix me some touch up but they weren`t willing to do it.

So did the original owner state it was that color, or are you guessing it is?

i know its kandy apple red for sure, but i don`t know if they added anything like a pearl to it.

IMO you need to find a helpful paint shop (or painter at a body shop) to help with this. Good places can computer-match paint and good painters can do it the old-fashioned way (by eye). Guessing isn`t too likely to give satisfactory results IMO.

I`d rather put time and energy into something that`s likely to yield a good outcome, even if it`s a PIA.

the thing is, i did go to bodyshops and they turned me away saying they rather paint the whole door.

You just need to find somebody who genuinely wants to help solve the problem in a sensible way. Painting the whole panel over that is utterly [insert negative here]. I`d try going to an autobody/paint supply place and talking with them about it.

Another suggestion re application is to take a book of matches, tear out a match, trim off the torn end with scissors and use it to apply the paint.

On the topic of paint scratch/chip repair, are the paintscratch.com kits good?

It looks like the primer is still there, so just base color coat and clearcoat.

Haven`t used mine yet, but it oughta be OK. Matching an aftermarket paintjob like the one the original poster is dealing with might be tricky though.

E-jag- yeah, the paper match application can work fine too :xyxthumbs Not too hard to trim the end of the match to the size you need.
