I would love to start interviewing people but I first need to have workers compensation insurance. I have been waiting for it for about 2 months now.

I was told I can to expect to pay about 20-26% of the hourly wage to the insurance policy.

That means if a new employee earns $10 an hour I need to pay $2.00 - $2.60 extra to the policy.

Then I need to figure in the social security tax and medical all that.

A $10 an hour employee will actually cost me $14-$17 an hour.

You guys have that problem??

Yes, Joe, it is a strong incentive to just pay people "under the table"! Which, of course, I would never do!

15.5% SS/Medicare, 17-20% for Workers Comp, plus my liability ins goes up almost $80/month per additional employee!

It is really outrageous...

I`m not sure if this would be an option or how you would feel about it, but by dad (who is a building contractor) essentially hires his workers as subcontractors (as he would the the plumbers, electricians etc). They`re basically running their own business. I don`t know if this would be a viable option in the detailing industry, but it may be something to look into. It would mean you could afford to pay more which might be welcomed by your potential employees...just make sure they know the implications of the arrangement.

I wish I lived near you guys...this is an awesome opportunity you`re offering.

I got workers comp through the state of md for about 3%, not too bad.

I am looking at $350 0 $400 a month for an employee that earns $10 an hour JUST for workers comp. 1.4% for medicare and 6.2% for SSI.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
