anyone know what actual polymers are being used in all the new synthetic sealants?
my girlfriend is a polymer chemist and I was thinking it might be fun to do some garage chemistry and see if we can work up a good homebrew sealant? :)

But if they make their own products, why would they tell me what`s in them?

well some use acrylic polymers like klasse and Jeffs Werkstatt

A lot of them use some sort of silicone polymers; PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane) is a popular one. There`s a lot more that goes into them other than the polymers themselves though...

right, but once you know what you`re looking to get on the car`s surface, the rest is just a matter of engineering.
I`ll have to take a look ad PDMS
and as for "acrylic polymers", that could be quite a few things.

the rest is just a matter of engineering.
A LOT of engineering. Professional manufacturers hire a whole team of chemists who already know what types of polymers to start with, but it is the rest of the chemical engineering that requires a lot of time, money and expertise.
