View Full Version : Wetsanding taillight scratches?

Hey guys..

I just removed some factory badges from a 96 Eclipse.

The problem is that I left a few very slight scratches in the taillight, and you can also still see the outline of where the badges used to be.

It`s annoying and I`m too anal to let it sit. Rather than buy a new center tailight, I was wondering if I could wet sand and then buff?

Does anyone have any experience and could point me to the right product?

I have the usual arsenal of detailing products, but no wetsanding paper.

1500 grit ok to start with?

Or should I go 1000-1500-2000, AIO buff?

Thanks!

Tony

Yes 1500 grit is a good grit to use and buff with a wool buff pad with buffing cream.

I would try just using a plastic polish first.

I ended up wetsanding with 1000grit, then 1500grit, then a quick pass of SSR2.5

Took all of 10 minutes and the results were very good.

For deeper scratches I`d suggest starting with 800grit, then working on up. 2000grit isn`t necessary if you have a decent cutting compound. SSR2.5 worked right through the 1500 grit with ease.

Thanks.
