The paint was lacquer and there was plenty of checking (failing). I stepped in hard and cleaned her up the best I could.
Enjoy!

Great work Sean! Looks like Joe`s 50/50 tip is working well for you.
If I remember correctly, this was a car you looked at a long time ago and were thinking of using a glaze on to help conceal so you didn`t have to polish too hard? It may have helped with the remaining halo swirls followed with a heavy carnauba like FK PW. But if I am correct, Z5 has some filling abilities?
I`m not a fan of the color, but the interior is very cool.
Nice clean up!

Really nice work on some pretty rough paint! The improvement in depth and gloss is amazing! :)
The interior looks like it is in pretty decent shape for a 30-year-old car.

Well, I certainly like the styling of the newer models much better, but it`s still a cool car.
Keep up the great work, Sean!

Seth: Yes! This was the one, and of course, I forgot the glazes in CT!
He said "do what you can", so I stepped in hard. The lacquer responded really well to polishing, but I didn`t want to go any deeper.
And FWIW, I was the patentor of the 50/50 Extreme Cut/OCP :D.
Scott: Yep, not too bad. Everything was uncoated so I was read the riot act on a mild cleaner. Even 20:1, it still felt a bit tough for the surfaces. I sprayed on and wiped away immediately.
Thank you!

great work man, i`m a fellow CT`er as well ( i know Bren with the WRX)
i`m going to be detailing a 1971 Daytona soon and it`s a laquer finsh as well (very similar color too)
it has the same checking problem with the paint, but it looks like someone already hit the car hard with a rotary because i can see bare metal around the edges of the hood and other spots too :nervous:
what would you reccomend for a process? I think i may just stay with my pc and do a coat of RMG after to help conceal anything i can`t remove, but any advice you can give would be apreciated since i don`t have a lot of experience with singel stage paints.

For a 30 yr old that Italian can still teach you a thing or two. :bigups
Great Job!

The paint came out really well, Sean. I`m going to order some of that blackfire as soon as my PO10FF is out; looks like you`re getting great results from it. The side shot of the reflection is :O ; good ol proper prep + Zaino - crazy deep.
