What will it look like if the clear coat is missing. The reason I am asking is because I have a bright yellow cougar and I have a mark (really small like a stone chip) that is a slightly different color than the car but I cannot get it off with wax or scrubbing. I was just wondering if maybe it was a stone that just took the clear coat off. Thanks for your help.

Exposed basecoat will typically have little to no gloss compared to cleared areas and won`t get any depth or shine if you try to polish or wax it.

You`ll normally be able to feel and/or see the edges or the surrounding clearcoat.

Is it "lighter"? I`ve accidentally wetsanded through clearcoat on some metallic finishes (like peuter, and silver) and it left a spot lighter than the rest of the paint (in my situation, about a thumb print size). That there teaches you to be more careful trying to wetsand out scratches, and to just use touchup paint more even if it woun`t turn out perfect. :grinno:
