After 4 months of lurking around this forum and asking questions, I finally began my first detail this morning. Washing and claying was nice, it was amazing to see how much the clay picked up and how smooth the paint was afterwards. However, I want to throw my pc at a wall because I can`t get rid of half of this crap on my car. So far I`ve spent about 5 hours on the hood trying to polish it up. I started with ssr2.5 on a 6" white SFX pad, then I moved to a yellow 6" pad, then a yellow 4" pad. There were a few areas where I was able to clear off most of the swirls, but the water and bird etchings and rock chips are just killing me.

I can`t get a 2 by 2 area to be anywhere near perfect because of 5-yr old bird crap marks and water etchings and rock chips.

First off, how much would a hood respray cost? Base and clearcoat for a black 99 528i. Second, what can`t I get rid of? Third, what`s the best way to get rid of water and bird etchings?

P.S. Sonus Acrylic spritz smells good :)
