The Makita comes with a built-in tool ;) You depress the spindle-lock button, grap the plate, and turn said plate to remove/install. The spindle-lock eliminates the need for a wrench like the PC uses.

Dunno about the Dewalt but I`d be surprised if it needed a separate wrench.

When you buy a brand new in the box buffer, rotary or any power tool it should come with everything necessary to operate it or change pads. :buffing:

The Dewalt also has a lock button for the spindle. All of the quality machines have them and some of the cheap ones too.

thanks for help guys, its just i haven`t looked underneath my 849 in quite some time, and normally don`t as I`m always looking at pads and panels :D

djmigs- i`m going to be using the makita with my 7.5" pads and using my 849 with my 4" pads

I need to change my original backing plate for an LC one and tried to get the plate off by pressing that button and it`s like rock, can`t budge it

I lost the tool that came with it

Sounds like a trip to the repair shop might be in order. Or you could try putting some penetrating oil around the button but I dunno if you want oil around your rotary...
