Black T-bird and scratches

Have a brand new black t-bird. someone wash it with a dirty mitt. Made some light scratches across the trunk lid. nothing you can feel with your finger nail. Question...for this is the Mequiar`s #1and #3 polish to strong. Should it be put on by hand or orbit buffer.
