I got this car a few years ago (black `93 civic si). It`s a good car, but has bad clearcoat failure on the hood and a rust spot. In addition, it has these blisters in the paint. They`re not very big, and I`m not too worried about them, but I am curious to know what they are. I also have a friend`s car that might have something like this, so I`m wondering what possibilities there are for it.

Anyone know what this is?

Thanks, Joshua

A bad repaint.

Could also be rust underneath just about to show its face.

I`m sorry- Its a bad repaint. I see the red putty used to repair the previous damage in one of the pictures. Also the sanding marks in the paint.

It`s not a repaint, at least I don`t think it was repainted. The marks are just swirls because there`s also a rust spot nearby that I don`t want to hit with my pads, and I don`t want to try putting any pressure on these things until I know I can (I can`t imagine the trouble bits of rust would cause if they got stuck in a pad).

So it`s probably just stuff under the paint that`s causing trouble? Next question, is this something that can get worse with time, or was it probably there from the time the car was painted?

See that red spot in the lower part of the picture? That is body shop putty that is used to fill pinholes in body filler.

Do you also see how thick the paint is and the grey primer?
