Does anyone have an idea of what this spot is? I suggested that it might be clearcoat failure, since it is on the roof (high susceptibility to UV damage). I went over the area with SSR2.5/green and AIO/grey, with no luck in reducing it. You can see the oxidation behind it where I stopped polishing, but the spot remained.

Looks like a problem with the clear coat to me too.

BTW, isn`t Corvette paint fun to polish? :nervous2:

Is that the area of the T-/Targa top? What is it made out of ? Looks like how the clear failed on the plastic parts of my Pontiac (mirrors/spoiler).

Looks like bird poop acid etch.

That`s definitely a possibility. I didn`t think of that one.

Scott, I haven`t started polishing the car yet, other than just the quick SSR2.5/AIO combo on that small area. The 2.5 didn`t seem to do anything to reduce the swirls/scratches. :( Got any tips for me?

Yes. I`m not sure if it`s plastic or not.

The defect has tons of tiny dots, like I`ve seen before with the beginning of clearcoat failure.

I too fear it`s the sort of clearcoat issue that can only be solved with a paintgun :( Go really easy on that spot as it`ll only get more noticeable if it *is* failing.

Might oughta use 4" pads to correct that hard paint.

What year Vette is that?

My vote is clearcoat failing. :(

i was working on hood of a 98 mustang a few days ago, that had the similiar problem as that as well. it seemed like the beginning of clear coar failure...

I`ve got a couple Propel orange 4" and yellow 4" pads on the way. I`m sure they`ll come in handy. I`ve yet to work on an Audi or Corvette, so it`ll be a new experience for me working with this notoriously hard clearcoat.

I believe it`s an `88.
