A friend picked up a 91 SHO for a fun little toy to play with. It`s modded, and boy it was a fun car to drive :2thumbs: Any case, we didn`t have time to do everything we wanted, and we just wanted to concentrate on livining the paint up some. It has some rust that another mutual friend is going to work on, and probably in the spring we will spend another day on it getting the rest of it back up to snuff, but for now, we just wanted to get the paint a little better. Sorry for the larger pics and lighting conditions... we did it in my garage where it was 64 degrees, a far cry from the 30 it was outside. I also have a video that really shows the difference in the paint :woot2:

He had already washed and clayed it, so for the drive over to my house we just gave it another QEW to make sure it was clean. The first step is an unusual one, most say can`t be used with a PC, but I have experimented and used it with success following up with other polishes for very bad scratches or paint. DACP just wasn`t doing it, which is why I went with the next aggressive polish I had. The routine was:

Meguiar`s #4 Heavy Cut with a cutting pad

Meguiar`s #83 DACP with a cutting pad

Meguiar`s #80 Speed Glaze with a light cutting pad

Followed up with using Optimum Wax.

Pics of course don`t show the difference well, but the video does, You`ll see it further down the post ;)

The lights you see in my garage that I had on were a couple fluorescents and two 500 watt halogens (1000 watts total).

Here is what we started with on the hood:

After a little polishing it gets better:

You can see the far side that has had the first step polishing and the near side untouched:

The hood has been polished now:

Now on the side, here again is a before, notice how the light just looks like a blob, and the white is rather more off white:

After the first polish, you can already tell a huge difference:

On the door it looks worse:

Now, to really see how bad it was, here is a 2meg video I shot, that really shows it better as to how bad it was... the video pans from the fender which had the first polishing step done only, to the door which was untouched.

Click here for the video, it`s worth it! (http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jbpocketpc/173_7366.AVI)

After we got done, it was getting dark, I opened the door for some shots. As I mentioned, we only had a little time to work on the paint (nothing else), so in the Spring we will do more. Not too bad for 15 yr old paint with 200k on it that sat under a tree for 2 years I don`t think.

Nice work and picture documentation.

Is this the 236hp, Yamaha engine version?

Much improved!!!

What exact pad did you use with the #4 heavy cut? I used a 3m waffle pad that was a little large for the PCs backing plate. It took a long time to reduce the water spots on a BMW using that combo.

Thanks :)

It is the v6 Yamaha, MTX. For 200k, this thing is tight as a drum with all the suspension mods, it`s a fun car to toss around.

220HP/200TQ since it`s a 5spd. The automatics got a 3.2L that produced 220HP/215TQ.

I was just about to chime in before you posted. Ya, 220HP / 200TQ for the MTX`s . Really the only SHO to have IMO, the manuals are sooo much fun.

I have a 1995 Red MTX, 57k , loaded garage queen. It`s a blast to drive! Especially over 4k rpms! :D

Have you been to the SHOforum? www.shoforum.com

Me? nope.

My first car was a `93 Taurus GL, and I had always liked the SHOs. I also got a bit interested in them when I [engaged in a competition] with a 5spd SHO in my Maxima. :o

Nice job! That oxford white is a beast. I did all work by hand last year, now I have a rotary I`m going to go at it with. That paint must be harder than the sheetmetal itself!
