    SEMA 2015 Challenge?

Was curious if there was a 3d/HD SEMA Detailing Challenge like there was in 2014? Anybody know?

Not after the way things went last year (according to others).

"Stories" is more like it. I wasn`t there and it`s all from what I`ve read and been told by those who were there. For that reason I`m not going to go into detail, but I`d be surprised it it happened again.

That got kinda ugly, so I highly doubt that there will be another event like that

    Bummer.

And sorry if I brought up some bad feelings to some. I took that challenge as a positive; something good from the 3D line. Not something negative.

No manufacturer should ever, ever, ever host an event where other products can be used. There`s no up side to it.

If you want to do a challenge, I`d suggest an "Iron Polisher" format. Let everyone who wants to, come to the booth and try your products with your pads and machines and let them see the results they can get. If you want to put their times up on a board that`s great, at the end of the show crown an "Iron Polisher." Give that guy some swag. Make sure everyone knows up front the whole thing is going on video and the winning technique will end up on your website along with a few others.

    Re: SEMA 2015 Challenge?

Evaluation of Paint Correction is so subjective, there is no point to this sort of specific "Contest".

Concour Events are also poor for evaluation of paint correction.

For example, the Porsche Club of America uses a 300 point system. Paint is a possible 15pts. Glass is a possible 10pts. It is more about who has the most original, clean representation of the vehicle.

Looks to me like 3D nailed it.

    Re: SEMA 2015 Challenge?

I would agree 3D nailed it.
BUT there are Too many variables.
Did 3D supply the panel everyone worked on?
Isn`t that a bit unfair. They may have practiced on a particular hard paint and knew exactly how to get the best results before the show.
The other contestants were probably being more conservative on aggressiveness. 3D was the only one using a rotary.
Did they measure paint thickness before starting?
How much did 3D remove vs the other vendors?
I Like the "Iron Polisher" idea.
