June 6th I set out to do a test on the durability of HD SPEED. I polished my hood with the Hydrotech pads, Cyan through Crimson, to see how well HD SPEED cut with each respective pad, and what kind of durability I could achieve. At the same time I put some LSP`s down on my roof, with HD SPEED applied by hand.

I applied it June 6th and by the end of June 7th, I could see where I applied the LSP`s on the roof.

On the front quarter is the control, with no protection, and it is completely stripped. The next quarter is BFWD sealant, the 3rd quarter is HD SPEED, and the last is Collinite 845. I thought this would give a good comparison with the BFWD and 845 being a pseudo sealant and SPEED containing Poxy.

June 10th I washed the car with a mix of Adam`s Shampoo and Griots car wash.

Here is SPEED on the left and 845 on the right

BFWD on the left and SPEED on the right

And, control on the left and BFWD on the right

With the camera on the other side, BFWD on the right and SPEED on the left

SPEED on the left, 845 on the right

On to the hood, the SPEED was applied on the hood and 845 on the body. The hood is on the top.

845 beading, SPEED sheeting, a little

June 13th I washed it again with ONR, but I rinsed the vehicle with water first. Honestly, the panels with SPEED looked worse than the previous pictures. It didn`t bead, it didn`t sheet, and it wasn`t slick, it was almost squeaky like bare paint.

Today I washed it again with Optimum Car wash and the only "beading" I saw was residual beading from the ONR wash. SPEED on the left, BFWD on the right.

845 on the left, SPEED on the right

I really hoped SPEED would have lasted longer, but in all reality, it did look and feel dead after the first wash. I applied it as directed on both the hood and the roof, and whether it was applied by hand or machine, it lasted the same.

However, the van I detailed here looked like it did the day I polished it. I haven`t had a chance to wash it again, but it did go on a couple thousand mile trip and came back still slick and glossy.

I hope to continue to use SPEED and continue to test it as I do like it and I felt it left the surface smooth as glass on the last couple vehicles I used it on. The polishing ability is excellent for what it`s worth.

Guess it needs to be topped with Poxy.

Here is the thread I just started with SPEED topped with 845 on the hood. Given, I did have a load of trouble removing 845, but it has been super resilient.

I`ve noticed about a week on some cars also, and I think there was another thread stating the same. It appears it needs to be topped with something, and can`t be used as a stand alone.

I have noticed the lack of durability as well. I`m really wondering why I should continue using this product when I could just use polish, get a better correction, then top with LSP.

I have not used Hd Speed yet because I only bought Hd Uno and Hd Polish, I am really happy with them, specially the polish ,sometimes for cutting 105 gives me a better result on European paints, like BMW white color??. From what I have been reading about Hd Speed and as you said at the end of your review, it is a great polish that leaves surface with a great shine and finish...I do not think this products is sold to be a great wax with a lot of protection.

Once a LSP stops beading does it absolutely mean there is no protection remaining??

Here is a quote taken from one of their board reps:

"This remarkable product restores color, depth, and gloss while adding a long lasting wax to the surface.

Great for those who want quick paint correction with amazing paint protection."

I`m getting 2 weeks durability with Speed. Something needs to be done. I get 6 weeks with D151 and 7-8 weeks with Poorboy`s Polish with Sealant.

It`s odd than no 3D employee has commented yet...usually they would almost immediately. I`m curious as to how they would respond.

No, but honestly with the slickness gone and it not being able to shed dirt, debris very easily, I think it`s valid to say the protection is lacking.

I get 1+ week of beading, slickness from ONR alone.

Noting that I am not a 3D employee.....

and I can only comment on the cars I used Speed on back in May...

I reached out to the clients that I used Speed on and both (2) claimed that the cars looked great and were beading nice. These cars are driven very little (once per week atleast) and garage kept but are washed semi-regularly. I`m not sure about the problems others are going through, but you might want to address your concerns directly to Tunch or Juan @ 3D. They are the only ones that can and should comment on this.

In the meantime, if you`re after longer protection characteristics, it may be better to follow up with a light coat of POXY.

Have you tried DG501 or ZAIO? DG501 goes 4 months easy for me, ZAIO a couple more on top of that. I`ve actually got ZAIO on a friends car that is 2 months shy of hitting the one year mark. Its garage parked at night but spends its days outside and its a dark blue.

I really need to get some ZAIO and try it, been saying that for years now but I want to see what it`s all about. DG501 is definitely a winner, actually I`ve not been disappointed with DG at all yet.
