The extra 6v helps reduce the current requirement on the pump motor. If the battery you have can handle an 8AMP draw in bursts, you should be okay. The Nomad only draws power when you pull the trigger.
Power P = I × V = R × I2 = V2 ⁄ R where power P is in watts, voltage V is in volts and current I is in amperes (DC).

I tried a SunForce 5.8 Amp AC/DC Power Converter linked in the first post but it wouldn`t power the Nomad.
