Very scary I30... (56K warning many pics)

Clean Dean

Keep it clean !!!
You have to love these !!! The vehicle was accurately described by the owner as being in “need of a good detailing after 170k miles. Both inside and out this car was a textbook example of how not to maintain your car. The black exterior clear-coated paint was moderately to severely damaged on every panel. The claybar I used on the car was black and gritty after a pass over the surface, and the car was ready for a heavy cut with Hi-Temps Heavy Cut Leveler. Luckily it was aggressive enough to cut into the unknown foreign substance on the clear near the a-pilar and sunroof. Unfortunately, the car had other areas which another unknown substances ate through the clear and base coat right down to the primer (ex. rear quarter). I followed the cutting phase with a buff with optimum polish and a blue foam pad. Sealed with Meguiars #21.

Interior was pretty dreadful !!! It took me about an extra 30 minutes than a usual detail to clean this monster up. The air compressor was working overtime today to blast out dust, dirt, and debris from just about every area known to man inside this car. Overall the interior looked very presentable after the detail was completed. I hope, but do not anticipate that this car will be kept in this condition to long. Makes you appreciate the customers who utilize your services to maintain their vehicles on a more regular basis.

Enjoy …

um, what the hell is that substance that was left behind? was it egged? and how did you polish what was eaten through the clear and base???

I guess it may have been egged. The area on the rear quarter is where the paint has been damaged down to the primer. Last part of the question ??? Explain ???

Very nice turnaround! What products did you use on the interior? Was a carpet extractor and steamer used?

The substance that was through the clear and base was the stuff on the rear quarter panel and as you can see you can't polish something out thats gone through both layers.

Wow great work, its details like these that are my favorites, what a turn around, you just doubled the value of that car. How do you go around driving something that filthy? I wouldnt be surprised if there were things growing in there.

Hey, I think I work with the guy that owns that car! No...I guess not...but he has those same piles of dandruff in the interior! Gross!!! Those big crusty splotches that mostly polished out look to me like parking garage runoff...the water that leaks through the parking deck picking up every mineral and metal it can from the parking structure (ask me how I know: http://autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/77219-water-spot-problem-solution-question.html ).

Great job, Dean...I KNOW these jobs make you appreciate the classics that you frequently work on.

yeah im aware of that i guess i misunderstood what he said, which is why i asked, i guess that nasty egg looking spot is where he was saying it ate through, man thats some wicked stuff.

oh great turnaround btw, sorry for the sarcasm earlier, it looked like the huge spot on the roof was completely gone. im sure your work has inspired the owner to get a respray on that nasty panel.

The white stuff looks like when you park in a parking garage after it rains and the run off picks up calcium or cracked building material and then drips onto your car and dries.

Great flip!

I always see a lot of black luxury cars over 5 years old in this condition when i'm driving around, I don't get it:nixweiss
