Detailing the "hidden" areas?

I have my car looking pretty darn good now. But thanks to you guys/gals I now have the detailing disease...

How do you deal with the more-or-less unseen painted body areas, like door hinge gaps, and the sills under the trunk lid or hood? On my car they are of course painted the body color but have little or no shine. Getting into these areas could be tight. What's an obsessive compulsive to do? Seal them? Wax them? Clean only? Get a life?

Depends on the vehicle, with beaters sometimes getting a bit of a short-shrift. On the good vehicles (including the minivan) I clean with solvent/APC, then polish, then wax or seal depending on which LSP I'm using. Then I wash with small BHBs and normal shampoo mix at every wash.

These areas are often *not* cleared, which is one reason why the aren't too shiny and can even be rough to the touch. This rough texture can harbor dirt and moisture.

To polish/wax the tight spots, I use an assortment of sticks and swabs. It can be a big job, but smoothing out the paint in these areas helps with the accumulation of dirt- slick surfaces shed dirt and water better.

Old Mf's, some APC, Q-tips and an AIO-type product along with elbow grease. After initial cleaning mild polishing and protection application (AIO type product) these area should become part of your normal detailing session. With frequent maintenence these tasks become quite easy. :xyxthumbs
