I recently purchased this polisher and was wondering what backing plate, buffing pads, and wax to use for my silver 03 Jetta. The paint seems to be in good shape, no scratches or swirl marks. The variety of products available for this polisher is overwhelming

Can anyone recommend a "beginners kit" with most of what i'll need?

Thanks!

If you paint is in good shape I can give you some general ideas.

I happen to use mostly Meguires products ( Got the PC and product as a present )

The nice Straight Polish ( Meguires #7 or Deep Crystal #2 ) if you keep up on the waxing and dont let it get away from you you shoudln't typically need more than that and good wax

If you let it go a bit you will want a mild cleaner ( Meguires #80 ) then use the polish then wax.

What has worked well for me so far is the following.

9006 pad for Wax

8006 pads ( Polish on 1 Cleaner on 1 )

7006 pad as a backer for Micro Fiber bonnets

I used #83 because I had some light swirls and surface scrathes and water etching so I had to go with a more agressive cleaner.

So it went like this for me :

Megs Deep Crystal Car Wash

Megs Clay Bar Kit

Clean with Quick Detailer after Clay

Paint Cleaner ( Tried #80 first then switched to #83 both with the 8006 pad)

Deep Crystal #2 Polish ( this a retail product in thier 3 step program w/ 8006 pad)

NXT Wax by Hand

7006 Pad with MF Bonnets for removal of wax

Quick Detailer and MF towels for clean up

You can pick a chose along the same line for your car as you like, but just understand what each product is designed for. For referance I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T in Brilliant Black Pearl, and she is a harsh mistress :)

Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.
