Makita 9227C?

After reading previous posts about name brand rotary polishers the Makita 9227C looks like the way to go for under $200.

Before I buy one I would like to know exactly what the “pre-set maximum speed dial is.

“Variable speed with pre-set maximum speed dial – ideal for ultra slow polishing.

the Makita can run from 600rpm's to 3000 rpm's I think what you're ready is just a marketing gimmick ploy. Basically it means you can set the dial that whatever speed you want and that what it goes to (set it at 1500rpms and it only goes up to that speed)

The speed dial determines the maximum speed with the trigger fully depressed. However, the Makita trigger can be feathered to adjust the speed to something between zero and the maximum speed selected on the dial.

OK so there is a DIAL separate from the trigger?

The main thing is to be able to lock the trigger at any desired speed so you won’t wear your finger out.

Of course there is a separate dial. The speeds range from 1-6.

Yes, there is a trigger lock.

I have the 9227C, and its my best friend on the job. As far the rotary goes there are 2 that I like the 9227C, and the Dewalt. The difference between the two is that the 9227C starts off slow, and gradually gets up to speed. When up to speed it remains powerfull. The Dewalt is much more aggressive with the trigger, but can still be feathered, and is much more costly. Both utilize trigger lock. I feel the Dewalt is the better machine.:think2

The Dewalt and the Makita are exactly the same price almost everywhere you look. I actually picked my Dewalt up cheaper than my Makita due to ebay. But in every store I've ever been in both machines have been identical in price down to the penny.

The Dewalt is a tad heavier, but I liked the rpm's on the dial. Both are very well made, I just a better deal on my Makita when I bought it.

Amazon has the DW847 for $159 and free shipping if you have Amazon Prime. Makita is $10 more
