Anyone in Website Publishing?

I built my own detailing site and am having problems publishing it using IE's FTP. All of my document extensions are 4.0 HTML (.wpp) but I can't seem to upload anything into the IE window.

Another question I had was how does the site know which is the home page? Does it need to be marked in some way?



Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
 
You must identify your homepage by naming it index.html I believe...It has been a while since I built uploaded a website.



A little off-topic but I built a website for a non-profit organization about 3 months ago and ended up leaving because of work scheduling, etc.. Well as of late I have been receiving all these inquiries for child development applications; browsed to the organizations website and sure enough they uploaded the webpage I built for them when I presented the idea to them, not a finalized version so all contact info goes to my email...grrr :wall



What are you using to create yours?
 
make sure all your pages are (DOT)HTML .html

main page is index.html all other pages can be anything.html

after you make a page view with your browser by opening the file with the browser.
 
First of all, let me thank you guys! So basically if my main page is named "one", all I would have to do is rename is "index.html"? and all other pages can be named "two.html" and so forth? I'm not at all computer savvy so I'm using a program from Serif called WebPlus 6.0, it's very simple yet effective. I'll try your advice tonight and let you know how it went! Thanks guys!
 
Looks like you are on the right track, and you are correct. Once you rename your homepage from one to index.html all pages outside of that can be whatever, just make sure you change any links you may have already created pointing to one.html



I'm not familiar with the program you are using but you may be able to do a Find and Replace to make this a little easier.
 
You may want to acquaint yourself with FTP. Also remember that if this is on a Unix server, or pseudo-unix (linux) that index.html is different from Index.html and index.HTML and InDex.HTml. Which case your filename is in matters.

You may want to use something like cuteftp or smartftp to manage your files.
