At what point does adding more coats of wax not add any additional protection? My main interest is having the wax job last as long as possible. In this case, I'm using collinite 476.

i usually lay down TWO coats for max. protection. anything past that is really a waste of product to me. my theroy is the second coat covers any areas you missed.

two coats of DP MAX WAX.....

For protection 2 coats, maybe 3 depending on the type of wax. After 3 coats you will not benefit from anything else like looks, gloss, depth, durability in my opinion.

Thanks everyone, I've been doing two coats for several years, was wondering if 3 or 4 might be even better, but I guess not. Glad I asked after finishing the 2nd coat.

There was an interesting test done several years ago that compared the coating thicknesses of a number of waxes and sealants. They used pretty sophisticated light refraction devices to measure the thickness. In every case, two coats provided the thickest layer and in several cases a third coat actually reduced thickness.

So you're saying I use tooooooo much wax ??? :(

Sounds good, might just try something similar, just light up a can of 476 with a blow torch, and then pour it over the car! LOL

just make sure you buff off the High spots, make sure you got a nice level surface :lol2:

Forty seven unless it's old Turtle Wax you found in Dad's garage. In that case it's eighty four. ;)
