Wax Applicator turning black!

Yesterday I washed my car and immediately dried it. I was applying the first coat of Z2 and about halfway through the applicator began turning gray then black! I cant imagine that there was black grease on the car after my wash. When I applied the Z5 and Z2 again in a 2nd and 3rd coat, the applicator remained white. Does anyone do a 2nd wash to prevent this? I feel that my wash process is VERY thorough.

That's dirt on the paint. When was the last time you used any kind of paint cleaner or clay? There are contaminants which adhere to the surface which washing won't remove, which is why they make pre-wax cleaners (ZAIO, for one) or why clay is frequently recommended as as a pre-wax step.

+1, additionally, be careful around trim if it hasn't been thoroughly cleaned, for it will turn applicators, MF's, black.

will claybaring itself would clean the paint?

Pretty much so but the dual action of claying and paint cleanser will reveal the true color hue of the vehicle.

You'll be amazed at all the microscopic dirt, even on a new vehicle, that will be removed by claying.:2thumbs:

Yea I recommend claying at least twice a year as well. More if you have too, just get a mild clay like Megs or mothers.
