Hm, what are these spots (pictures)

They are in clusters, luckily only on my trunk and rear bumper. Each on is about the diameter of a dime. Can't say I remember parking under any trees or telephone lines lately either.

Washing doesnt remove them. Claying will remove the ring, but not the center 'deposit.'

Any ideas?
 
Have you tried polishing them? Also, how does the paint feel in the area? Do you notice a depression or roughness?
 
Haven't tried polishing yet (been too hot), but the paint feels fine. The dots are so small I cant feel them with my fingernail. At first I freaked out cause it looked like rust. Hmm, maybe it could be rust that blew onto it. Could rust cause a ring like that?
 
Looks like rail dust with a bloom around it. FK USA and AutoInt make excellent decon systems that will remove the center speck by chemically burning it out of the paint. You might want to look into splitting a kit with a couple other guys, I paid 75 IIRC for mine but its good for atleast 20 cars.
