Z5 swirl hiding (if you can believe it) durability?

If you use 3-4 layers Z5 to fill the swirls and leave it like that, will the swirls become more visable faster than if you topped the Z5 with 1-2 layers of Z2? My logic is that the Z2 layor would protect the Z5 fillers. Anyone know?

Seems like good logic. Z5 can stand alone and protect the filler. Z2 is best for optical clarity. So I would think that several layers of Z5 would be able to protect the fillers just as well as several layers of Z2. Of course, don't quote me on that.

Ok I just talked to Sal, he says that topping Z5 with Z2 will not protect the layer of Z5 at all. It will just give better optics. Oh well kinda what I figured, it's not like paint lol.

silly question (i am very new to the mystical land of automotive detailing): would it be possible to apply a thin coat of wax on top of a zaino'd car, in order to build up a kind of protective layer for that hard-earned finish? would doing so simply hide the optical quality of the polish, or would it have any other side-effects i can't think of at the moment?

thanks a lot, and sorry for the noob-ness. =)

:wavey Welcome!

Not a silly question at all! Yeah you can apply a coat of wax (good wax) on top of a Zaino'd car. I don't think it would do much for protection, but maybe it would...

It would hide the optical quality of the finish. It wouldn't be as "mirriory" as just with Zaino. You'd see more of your paint color instead of reflections from other stuff.

Also, you couldn't apply any more Zaino until you strip off the carnuba wax with a dawn wash. But you could just keep applying carnuba wax in the future instead of redoing Zaino.

Just give Zaino a shot by itself, you may find that it gives you the look that your looking for, as it did for me. Why waste your time, money, and effort topping if your happy with the Zaino look?

You won't be disapointed with Zaino!

the more i read about it, the more excited i get about it, the zaino'd cars look absolutely beautiful =)

i just got a new car actually, a white 2002 wrx; i think that the zaino would have looked a lot better on my old one, a 2000 civic si (black). i'm liking the white on the wrx, but it'll just never be as gorgeous as a well polished black car.

do you think that the klasse line of products bear looking into?

people speak volumes of the klasse SG; i should probably look into buying a PC from somewhere so i can do these things more often. =)

Actually your Zaino would look great on both. Yeah, on a black car with Zaino, no other color can reflect like it. :) Klasse is very good as well, I personally am a fan of Zaino. The Guru Reports rated Zaino over Klasse, however some people on here like Klasse more than Zaino on dark colored cars. Personally, they both look the same to me  I love the mirror finish Zaino gives.

As far as the PC, if you have imperfections you might want one. Personally, Z5 (a Zaino product) fixed (hid) most of my swirls and imperfections. Yeah it's just hidden but it stays hidden for a long time.

i've noticed more than a few minor swirls in the paint from the previous owner... none too bad, it just looks like he washed it and waxed it like a normal person would. not like an autopian would. ;)

the front end is covered in these tiny little sand/rock pits, though, from the infamous new england winters.... hatesomuch. i don't know how i'm going to get those out. =\

Yeah my front end is covered with rock chips too. Sooo many that it isn't worth my time to spot patch them up, I"ll eventually get a body kit and deal with it then. I just Zaino right over top of them. A PC won't help with those too much. If the scratches are past the paint then a PC won't help. The Z5 might help with the swirls, but it all depends on the severety. I figure I'd rather put 6 coats of Z5 on instead of taking some of my clearcoat off. And once that clearcoat has been taken down some, what are you going to do when it gets swirled/scratched again? If it's a daily driver then it WILL happen eventually, just something that happens unfortunately. Maybe we autopians can reduce the severety of them and amount but the odds are that they will happen on a daily driver.

Truthfully, even before I used Z5 to fill the swirls and just used Z2, the reflection was sooo good that unless you really looked at the right viewing angle with the sun at the right position then the swirls weren't really that noticable.

Guys, My brand new Lexus SC430 within 15 days got stone chipping and it's not a daily driver!

I had the chips repaired. I then went an had Armorglove installed on the hood, front air-damn, headlights, fender front by headlights, rocker panels, side mirrors and door cups.

Here's the site:Amorglove Paint Protection Film

It's one of the best "clear" bra's out and you really cannot see it unless close to the car where it ends on the hood. You can wax over it as well. Just be carefull, it's soft! Resolved any further rock chips!

As for a PC, go to Costaltool for the best price:PC at great price

Zaino works great on pretty much any color. The object of Zaino is that you MUST do all prep prior to application ot results will not be that spectacular.

Wash the car with Dawn, clay the finish, polish the car until all swirls are gone and you're happy. Wash with Dawn again to remove oils/silicones from polishing. Wash again with Z7. Dry and apply Z6 on the finish prior to Z5. Spray a little Z6 on applicator pad, apply ZFX activated Z5 thin, think of it costing $1000 a bottle!. You can do 3 coats in a day with ZFX activated Zaino. Don't forget to spray Z6 B4 and after each application of ZFX/Z5. Once happy with Z5, switch to ZFX/Z2, spray Z6 B4 application of ZFX/Z2 and just repeat until happy. Step back and get some sunglasses!

Too many people use Zaino, but do not prepare the finish, then blame the Zaino. Zaino use takes time, the most in getting the finish just right for Zaino (polish, washings) so it can bond.

Just take your time, don't rush. And if you run into a problem, call Sal Zaino in the morning 8:30AM-11:30AM best time to reach him for any issues you may have or questions.

The newer Zaino is much better in application, it's thinner and easy to use.

Get yourself a PC, and get your finish nice and smooth and swirl free as Zaino will amplify any swirls or defect. I klnow, as my Lexus still has swirls applied by the dealership "swirl mark and scratch application department".

Now, go have some fun and enjoy your Zaino!!

As for shipment faster via credit card, I'd say yes now it's online and can ship it the day the card was used.

the chips are pretty deep... it's a year's worth of massachusetts sh!tty roads chipping up the front. ;)

i'll go take a picture of them later.

i think i might just need a new bumper to really get it fixed, i really can't think of any way they could possibly come out.... but i think i'm going to check into that armorglove stuff.

i'm not buying the zainos for a couple weeks yet, though... i just got laid off, so i need to be saving most of my money. =\

Danocronopolis,

Damn that blows! No one wants to be laid off this time!

Nice to see another Autopian from CT!

Yes, once you get established in a new job, invest in Armorglove! Best thing I did!

When using Armorglove does your paint everywhere else fade like with a bra? Can you see it on the paint? What does it look like when rocks hit it?

Here's a good shot of it on the SC430. I highlighted the areas where it ends on the hood. All paint will look the same and fade the same with it on. Removal is just a heat gun at 150+ degrees and it comes off.

Here's the SC430:

damn, that SC430 looks nice. =)

i notice that you can see a real faint little line on the hood, where the armorglove stops... i wonder, can they make one that covers the whole hood and front fenders, so that there's no visible transition?

if the seam was right at a body panel line, then i don't think you'd ever even be able to tell it was there.
