My Wolfgang impressions at the 2 month mark

I first started using Wolfgang in mid March (actually, about the 10th or so). I have had it on a few cars now a full two months.

One of the vehicles is a single stage black Lexus LX470 that I used the WG twins to polish and seal on March 18th. I washed it today and even before I washed it, the paint looked really good. Mostly it was just dusty anyway. I Splashed some water on it to check the beading (very good) and QEW washed it. Those who have used QEW can easily tell while washing that the paint is being protected. Towels glide over the paint as you dry and dirt, grime, etc come of more easily.

After washing, the paint felt slick to the touch of skin. Not quite like when it was first applied, but decently slick for 2 months passage of time on a mom-mobile. There were a couple paint transfers on the left passenger door and rear quarter. They were pretty minor and came off with little effort using a microfiber pad and the WG pre-cleaner. I then applied the sealant to those two sections. There was an improvement in appearance vs the 2 month old application but the difference was not very large. Again, pretty good for 2 months. I applied the WG quick detailer to the rest of the Lexus and the panels next to the two that were just given the WG twins again now looked almost exactly as good after applying the QD and were nearly as slick. I did not apply the QD to the roof so I can see how WG performs over time without using the QD....sort of as a control panel.

A few points. I really like the WG QD on sealants. Wolfgang, EX-P and NXT. Works very well on any of the three. It isn't as good on carnaubas though, not sure why. On sealants though, it is excellent and noticably adds a more liquid look.

I know some people have had hazing issues but I haven't. Both the pre-cleaner and sealant are very user friendly and wipe off easily, almost like dusting!

I like the pre-cleaner even more by PC, using a Meguiars finishing pad and a speed of 5. Seems to add even more pop.

Anyway, I will update this again in a month.

Thanks for the review! When does the roll of film run out so you can post us some pics :D

I have a couple pics left to take, probably tomorrow night. I have posted pic of the LX470 with WG, click the link in my sig, I have about 590 pics hosted and no time to go through and find them. Do have some WG pics of a black Silverado SS and white Honda Civic on this role, plus I redid my Dad's black 626 with #80 Speed Glaze, VM and EX-P.

I've been eyeballing the speed glaze for a while now in the megs catalog, looking forward to seeing some cars with it on.

What does the reformulated WG QD smell like? Does it smell like cheap cologne (like the WG Auto Bathe) or does it smell more fruity?

The reason I ask is because with the WG QD that I have (more fruity smell), I don't see the gloss or liquid look that you describe. This is on top of WG and EX-P. It's an adequate QD but QuikShine and Eagle One WAUD are both noticeably slicker than WG QD and give me a much better gloss (although I do admit I don't like WAUD on top of EX-P.)

Just curious.

Well, I have used WG for about a month now and I love it. I was a zaino zealot until i used WG. WG gives my care more "POP" to the paint then zaino. Now, you guys have to know that I am a detailing nut and I never go longer than a month w/o applying a wax or sealant of some kind(zaino), so unfortunately, I may never know how well WG does in the longevity department. I will have to rely on you guys for that.

I have nighthawk black pearl TL and the WG topped with either s100 or pinnacle will knock your socks off bigtime. It is definitely noticeable compared to zaino.

I haven't tried WG detail but my favorites right now are zaino z-6 and Clearkote quikshine. Quikshine is the shizzle! You guys have to try it!

Again, if you have a dark colored vehicle, try WG topped with s100 or pinnacle!:xyxthumbs

maecrispy-I have both versions of the Wolfgang QD. The cologne scented one is the old version and I just add an ounce to the QEW wash to add some slickness. The apple scented one is the newer version. Next time you use it, apply and remove from one panel then compare it to the next panel and I think you will see the QDed panel has a more liquid look.

cbsharpe-I would agree that Quikshine is a better all around QD than the Wolfgang one, but the WG QD is still pretty good.

Here is a Wolfganged DTS at the 2 month point and in the direct sun, no less!

Scottwax- Since you have had sucess with the WG twins and I will be trying them on three cars over the next month would you be so kind and share your prep / application technique. Naturally I would like to minimize steps but I rather put forth the effort to do it right. My plan of attack was going to be:

1) Wash

2) Clay

3) Menxurna FP (only on one vehicle with minor spider webbing)

3) WG PWP

4) WG DGS

5) WG QD

6) Cure 24 hours.

My specific questions are what if any prep did you do before WG PWP and how many coats of WG DGS? If more than one coat of WG DGS were they put one one after another or after a cure time?

Thanks for post

I got about the same time of protection, and then got bored and added another level. (After removing and polishing of course) Eight to nine weeks of protection was more than I needed, or was willing to accept without carressing the finish again.

As for the detailer, I too like the WG (new fruity, citrus smell) version. (though I kinda liked the others smell too but product was clearly in need or reformulation) I have found that Z6 works very well atop Wolgang sealant with no apparent loss in protection.

The only prep I have ever done prior to the Wolfgang twins has been #80 Speed Glaze. The rest of the vehicles I used it on are regularly maintained and needed minimal prep (ala the pre-cleaner). I've only used one layer of Wolfgang on anything I have used it on and it seems to be holding up well.

So I tried a panel by panel comparison. I think the problem for me was the car color. On my silver TL, I really didn't see that much of a difference between one panel with WG QD (although it's noticeable slicker) and the panel without WG QD.

I did try it on a black car and the difference is definitely more noticeable.

In the end, I think I'm going to stick with my current fav - QuikShine, and just keep using the WG QD for car wash enhancement.
